Parents with daughters understand all too well the challenges girls face growing up. They also understand the value of offering girls the support and guidance they need to find their own strength and plan for future academic and career success. In recent years, many studies have suggested that girls do best in a single gender learning environment, where they are free to develop the confidence and assurance they need to take them into the future.

The Nellie McClung program was developed to offer girls in junior high the chance to study and explore in a single gender educational setting. In addition to achieving academic excellence, girls in the Nellie McClung program are encouraged to become responsible citizens, and to demonstrate their commitment to the community through a variety of volunteer activities and initiatives.

Students are encouraged to evaluate their own strengths and interests and to decide what they want to achieve in life. They are also encouraged to explore their own creativity and to adopt healthy, active living activities that will stay with them throughout their lives. As a community they are taught the value of respect, collaboration and cooperation, and are asked to demonstrate those qualities in the classroom and out.

Nellie McClung Girls' Junior High Uniform Policy

A school uniform is worn during the school day and at school functions recommended by school staff.

The primary function of the uniform is a commitment of harmony and respect and is worn with pride. Uniforms alleviate issues of socioeconomic difference, peer pressure and competition. Uniforms decrease time in the morning spent on choosing 'what to wear' as well as the large expenditures of money often spent on clothing over the school year.

Number One uniforms are to be worn on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Bannerman School and on any other days designated as such by the school administration. Students changing into their uniforms at school must be ready for class. Refer to Uniform Policy sent home with Nellie McClung students for more information.
